Katy is an artist and tattoo artist who specialises in detailed pencil drawings on paper and custom fine lined art for the body. Working from her art studio on the Tutukaka Coast, just east of Whangarei, Katy draws inspiration from her surroundings of ocean views, nature and native bird visitors (often spending a few extra minutes chatting to the birds and other creatures, looking form that special glint in their eyes). With the most delicate, intricate details, Katy’s illustrations and tattoo artworks bring people from far and wide, all with enough love for her art to have it indelibly etched into their skin.

Katy and her husband are passionate about conservation, enjoying the long winded journey of turning their block of land back into native bush in the hopes of bringing in new bird life and creating a more sustainable and welcoming future for their beloved daughter.

‘Walking with aroha’, features a brown kiwi taking a stroll through beautiful Aotearoa / New Zealand nativebush foliage. This kiwi is sporting a fancy manuka flower crown and is joined by a few special native friends. Kiwi birds are a significant national icon of Aotearoa / New Zealand, equally cherished by all cultures. They represent the wonderful uniqueness of our native wildlife and the value of our natural heritage. Special native friends included are: Hura/giant centipede, pupurangi/kauri snail, kahukura/red admiral butterfly, pepe para riki/common copper butterfly, rauparaha’s copper butterfly, glade copper butterfly, pepe ao uri/common blue butterfly, janita’s tussock butterfly, mumutawa/ladybird. Native foliage icluded are: Kauri leaves, kauri male cone, disintegrated kauri female cone, kauri seeds, tanekaha leaves, spiky rimu leaves, totara leaves, ponga/silver fern, manuka/tea tree flowers and leaves.

Art work by Northland based artist, Katy Hayward. This drawing was inspired by her aroha / love for going on beautiful bushwalks with her little family, and a special nod to her daughter’s obsession for fancy head pieces at this time in her life.
