It is with real pleasure that we can announce to our customers that Ballantynes is about to start on an ambitious re-development of its city site. A new multi-level retail space will replace the temporary structures that were built after the 2011 earthquakes.

You may well recall that in the February 2011, two Ballantynes buildings located on Lichfield Street, known as ‘Stables’ and ‘Andersons’ were damaged beyond repair and subsequently demolished. These were replaced with what are classed as temporary buildings and housed most of our homewares offer. You have been loyally shopping in these structures for over six years – but that is about to change.

This project heralds a new chapter in Ballantynes long history. The new building will reinstate the pre-earthquake floor area and provide a unique opportunity to create spaces that are full of light and that flow seamlessly.

“Our loyal customers can expect nothing but the best,” says CEO Maria O’Halloran. “We have been inspired by the latest in European retail design concepts and we intend to make use of the best trends to give our customers a 360 retail experience. I am particularly excited about the market style Deli and Café areas that are positioned under a glass covered atrium. They offer a distinct European inspired café setting and invite our customers to explore, be entertained and enjoy.”

One thing is for sure, Ballantynes new building will awaken all your senses in a surrounding that epitomizes the renowned Ballantynes charm! We can’t wait to open the doors and show you a whole new shopping experience.

To make way for the rebuild, we’re moving most of our homewares departments to our HOME EDIT store @ 520 Colombo St. You’ll be able to purchase all your favourite brands in their new surroundings and be served by all the same fabulous staff.

We wish to thank our customers for their patience while we undertake this exciting project. Make sure you keep checking our website for the latest project updates.

The Home Edit @ 520 Colombo Street is now open, featuring Cooking & Dining, Bed & Bath, Home & Living, French Country and Citta. Phone (03) 378 1960.
