Menswear Suiting Trends

Autumn//Winter 2020

13 Mar 2020

As the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter, we get the feeling Autumn has finally arrived. However, the cooler weather does mean the arrival of new Autumn//Winter suiting trends to enjoy.

This season is all about creating a statement in at least one piece of your suit ensemble. While this statement may not be large or dramatic, prints and bolder colours are giving tried and tested classics a new lease on life. Adding a print or an alternative colour to your usual suiting is simple to do, yet effective. Have a look at our stylist's trends below for your Autumn//Winter 2020 suiting inspiration.

Statement Shirt

Autumn//Winter 2020 suiting is all about that statement shirt. Kick those wintery blues with a stand-out shirt that grabs attention from the get-go. We are adoring the colours and styles in our newest Ted Baker drop, proving that suit shirts don’t necessarily need to be button up or plain. Patterned shirts are not hard to style either – add a pair of standard black, navy or grey suit pants and jacket with similarly tonal shoes, and you’re sorted.

A Good Yarn

With the air certainly cooling down, we’re drawn to the Lyle & Scott knitwear range with hints of sky blue, light greys and traditional navy and black. If you’re after a knit with some subtle detailing, the Lyle & Scott Cable Jumper will become your go-to. Our menswear stylists also enjoy the versatility of a good knit, saying they’re easy to wear to work, an evening event, or even dressed down with some jeans.

Suit Up

While you can’t go wrong with your usual navy or black suit jacket, we’re interested to see some bolder colours coming through – particularly copper and beige. A coloured suit jacket is a great way to add a tonal pop to your suit, without going over-the-top. Pay attention to the texture of the suit jacket too, our stylists mention this is a good way to add more subtle detailing to your look. Try your hand at the Joe Black Formation Sports Jacket paired with classic black pants and shoes and a shirt that compliments the jacket's copper toning.

Walk This Way

Who doesn’t love a sturdy pair of boots to get us through Winter? The staple R.M. Williams boot of course makes a feature here, with a seasonal colour range dropping just in time for Autumn. While we all tend to lean towards a classic brown or black, our stylists recommend considering the Chinchilla boot in teal for something a bit different. Alternatively, you can stick to a classic black boot and opt for some extra detailing (such as the Rieker boot) if you want to add discreet and on-trend detail.
