Coats & Boots Trends

Autumn//Winter 2020

6 Mar 2020

If I'm honest, much as I enjoy the change of season (golden leaves, warming soups, crackling fires - all that gorgeous stuff) - I really love Summer. Saying goodbye to lazy beach days is always a tough one for me. So to get excited for the long cold Winter ahead, I start day-dreaming about lush coats and boots.

And this season is a day-dreamers paradise - so many looks (the trench is back!), so many colours (pink too!), so many textures (boucle - so chic) and this is just coats. Stay with me as we review the latest looks to add to your wardrobe this season.

Textural Delights

Adding some subtle detailing into your outer-wear this season. Plush textures like quilted velvet (check out our cover coat, Curate Little Quilty Coat), effortlessly sophisticated boucle in cropped and buttoned or long line and oversized, and cosy teddy coats are creating a statement this season.

Keep your styling simple, and layer away. Colours and textures play well together - so don't constrain yourself there. Though check for fit if you are layering coats over jackets. It works, but you'll need to check the shoulder of the coat works over the jacket.

The Trench Coat

The trench coat comes in all shapes, sizes and colours, it's the ultimate investment piece. We talk about dressing garments up and down all the time, but I think the trench coat is really the ultimate trans-seasonal piece. Admittedly, it can take time to find your perfect coat. Georgie, our Contemporary Lounge Buyer loves  the Karen Walker Theon Trench, saying “it’s versatile colour makes it perfect for all sorts of occasions and it’s a starter coat if you’re new to the trench world.” I'm partial to the Trelise Cooper Trench-lal Rain Coat as it picks up the heritage check which is another big trend for the season. If you are after something a little more traditional, you can't go past the Sills Valentina Trench.

A Pop of Colour

There's something magic about colour in your wardrobe, to Marie Kondo a phrase - it simply brings joy. Mustards, reds, earthy greens and heritage checks all feature on this seasons most wanted lists. With elegant detailing; ties at the waist, capes, hoods and button details - there is huge variety. Huffer have embraced the neon trend this season and we are here for it (Huffer Womens Track Puffer Jacket), Coop have given us blush pink leather vibes (Coop Biker Boss Jacket) and Ella Boo have dropped this glorious red number (Ella Boo Coat). Brighten your winter look with a pop of colour and feel better for it (promise!).

Kitten Heels

Can I personally extend a warm welcome back to the kitten heel. Much as I adore a towering stiletto, sometimes it's nice to take a break from those dizzying heights! This perfect heel height plays well with most outfits, pop them with a pair of ankle grazer trousers and an oversized merino top, wear them with your favourite frock, and of course boyfriend jeans love the delicacy of a kitten heel.

The Wild Side

Explore your wild side with  mock-croc and snake print boots this season. The Sol Sana Wylie Boot showcases the best of autumnal shades and will wear perfectly with trousers and dresses - although, why restrict yourself to one pair of boots?! The Hogl Soho Croc Lace Up Boot brings you the best of casually cool with the textural element that we are all about this season. Great for weekend wear, and perfectly on-trend.

Neutral Shades

Neutral is totally on trend for Autumn/Winter 2020. The best part about that is that black, white, cream, tan, blush, brown all go with pretty much everything. These are definitely worth the spurge (is it even a splurge when the cost per wear is so low?!). The Hogl Deluxe Gold Detail boot is everything we love about this trend. These Hispanitas embrace the neutral trend - along with the Victorian lace-up. With beautiful boots arriving into store daily - it's time to make your trip in to pick your new favourites.
